Dear spiceheads, Just trying to figure something out with connecting to remote HP servers using iLO. I can connect to iLO homepage through a web browser and change stuff around, when I try to connect to the remote console using java or something else it just sits there saying connecting and then times out. I have changed the port on the router from 443 because I don't want it easy for people scanning to get their hands on these systems. I can connect to locally with my laptop so I know there is no problem with web browser or anything like that. I can connect remotely using the changed tcp port number using the iLO app on my adroid device and I can use the remote console perfectly, so I know the ports are forwarding as they should.
I have just changed the tcp port back to 443 and tested and I can connect to the remote console now. ILO, dracs and many other things became a pain with the latest java. Never change ports like this. It makes things break and harder to use but does nothing to stop someone finding the service. That's a myth. Port scanners find odd ports as easily as common ones.
Security through obscurity is worse than doing nothing because it makes things harder and tips off criminals that you are an easy target. Use 443, don't consider any other ports.
